About Us
We are a small company based out of San Diego, CA. We have been doing business in California for years, but have expanded our reach to across the US and internationally.
My name is Adam, and I’m the owner of Solus Gaming. I enjoy playing games as much as the next person, and I’ve always loved having custom controllers for my game systems. I play video games for fun, sometimes competitively, and I understand how important it is to want to have your own identity. I’ve never been a fan of having the exact same thing as someone else. Yes, I’m the guy that makes fun of the herd of white SUVs sitting in the McDonald’s drive-thru, waiting to pick up their daily calorie bombs. If your name is Karen, this is probably you I’m making fun of. Hi Karen.
I’ve always wanted to leave my mark in some small way, whether it’s notable or not. It’s just in my nature. I have always wanted to be different but in a constructive and humble way, not in a “look at me” sort of way. My interest in console modding grew after getting familiar with modding PSPs, Nintendo DS systems, and especially Xbox 360s. I coded my own Xbox 360 modding programs too amongst pursuing many other endeavors in the Xbox modding scene.
So why Nintendo Switch you ask?
After moving to primarily PC gaming for a couple years, I decided to buy a Nintendo Switch because there was a great deal being made about the system. I bought one about 6 months after it came out, and got the grey Joy-Con model. Fast forward to 2021, and during a move between houses my Switch was stolen. I always liked the grey Switch because of its subtlety, but now I had a problem because I couldn’t find a grey Switch anywhere in stores. I was forced to purchased a standard one with red and blue Joy-Cons, and took it home. My girlfriend bought the same red and blue model at the same time as me. Everyone in her household had a red and blue Switch as well, and I went over quite often.
Immediately, I felt like I had a console that wasn’t my own; aside from the fact I didn’t like the aesthetic of the different color Joy-Cons either. My new Switch didn’t feel special or like my own, I felt like I was just playing on someone else’s console. So many people have red and blue model Switches, that it’s pretty much most of what you see. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.
I don’t think opportunities should be kept to the few, or that ideas or information should be hoarded. When I was modding, my favorite thing to do was teach others how to do the same thing as me. That’s why I started Solus Gaming (aside from wanting to make money lol), because I wanted to bring customized systems and controllers to the forefront as much as possible. The goal is to share the opportunity for gamers to make their systems their own. I love seeing others truly enjoy what they have, and I want them to feel good about being different from the crowd. Game systems are not utilitarian; they aren’t some appliance to use and forget about. They are meant to be enjoyed, customized, and loved by their owners.
